How to scan

How to scan a QR code on Google Pixel

Google Pixel phones have Google Lens deeply integrated into the Camera app — point and shoot, no extra steps. Works on Pixel 2 and every Pixel since. If you're on the original Pixel running an older Android version, the Google Lens app from Play Store is the fallback.

The short version

Open Camera and point at the QR — Pixel auto-detects.

Step-by-step

  1. Step 1

    Open the Camera app

Tap the Camera icon on your home screen.

  2. Step 2

    Point at the QR code

Hold the Pixel steady so the QR is fully in the frame. Detection happens automatically.

  3. Step 3

    Tap the suggested link

Pixel surfaces the QR's destination as a chip on the viewfinder. Tap it to open.

  4. Step 4

    Or use Google Lens directly

Long-press the home button (or say "Hey Google, scan QR code") to launch Lens, then point at the QR. Same outcome, alternate path.

If it doesn't work

  • If detection doesn't trigger, ensure Lens suggestions are enabled in Camera Settings.
  • Very old QR codes printed at low resolution may not scan reliably — try to fill more of the frame with the QR.
  • Pixel 1 (the original) may need the standalone Google Lens app from Play Store.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google Pixel scan QR codes natively?

Yes. Pixel 2 and newer have Google Lens built into the Camera app and detect QR codes automatically. Just point and tap the link suggestion.

Can I use Google Assistant to scan a QR code on Pixel?

Yes. Long-press the home button or say "Hey Google, scan QR code" — Lens opens with QR mode active.

What if Pixel won't detect the QR code?

Check that Camera Settings has Lens suggestions enabled. Move closer so the QR fills at least a third of the frame. As a fallback, open the Google Lens app directly.
